Fentimans and Borders Whisky: Rediscovering the Iconic Scotch & Soda
Scotch and soda is a classic pairing, redolent of smokey bars in the Mad Men era, but in recent years, it has been usurped by ubiquitous Aperol Spritzes and G&Ts as the effortless bar order.
As whisky makers through and through we want you to experiment with your go-to mixed drink this season (and any season – because whisky isn’t just for the winter) and rediscover Scotch and soda with us.
We know that some say Scotch should never be mixed but at R&B Distillers we know that the best way to drink whisky is whichever way you enjoy it the most!
Award-winning Borders is full of flavour, unusually 50% wheat & 50% malted barley from one highland distillery using Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks which lend vanilla and nutty notes. At 51.7% abv it is powerful enough to hold its own when used in mixology.
Using time honoured recipes, Fentimans traditional sodas are botanically brewed, using a combination of infusion, skilful blending and fermentation of natural ingredients.
Fentimans & Borders – The Perfect Pour
Fentimans have a fantastic range of sodas and really we think Borders would go with any of them but our favourites were to pair the whisky with Fentimans Curiosity Cola, Rose Lemonade and Ginger Ale.
The invigorating cola is brewed using cinnamon which adds depth of flavour to the traditional cola which complements the sweet vanilla notes of Borders. The herbaceous notes of the whisky are picked up by the Rose Lemonade and lends a lovely pinkish hue while Ginger Ale adds an autumnal heat to a long serve.
